Job Purpose

Deliver compliance policies and procedures for Insurance Brokerage. Work with internal sales team and external business partners on compliance and related matters. File policy forms with the Insurance Carriers and CMS for approval. Initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance Program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities

Compliance Management

  • Manages day-to-day activities of Compliance Program and relates activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
  • Periodically reviews and updates Standards of Conduct to ensure continuing currency and relevance in providing guidance to management and employees.
  • Collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution.
  • Collaborates with the sales and marketing department to ensure that employees follow government regulations
  • Consults with the Corporate Leaders as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
  • Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Standards of Conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Coordinates a system for uniform handling and documentation of such violations.
  • Monitors, and as necessary, coordinates compliance activities for Call Center to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
  • Ensures proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
  • Works with the Human Resources Department and others as appropriate to ensure that an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.

Product Development and Policy Filings

  • Implement and amend, analyze policy forms for Health products (i.e., life, accident, and health products, including vision, dental and other limited benefit health products) to ensure compliance with our Carrier partners which follow state and federal laws
  • Obtain approvals from Insurance Companies.
  • Work with external business partners as necessary.

Procedure Manuals / Development and Maintenance
  • Ensure that documented compliance guidance is in place for internal associates as well as external business partners
  • Responsible for updating general compliance and product manuals for life and health products, as well as, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Group Benefits businesses.

Advertising Compliance Oversight

  • Work with internal and external business partners in reviewing and approving advertising for compliance with legal requirements
  • File advertising for approval as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and ability to multi-task with accuracy
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and highly sensitive information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products:
    • Outlook - Intermediate level
    • Word – Intermediate level
    • Excel – Intermediate to Advanced level
  • Strong Data Entry Skills required
  • Insurance industry / Compliance experience preferred
  • Experience with Salesforce desired, or other CRM systems

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements

  • Business office environment
  • Normal office hours plus extended hours during busy seasons
  • Primarily a sedentary office role with keyboard and phone tasks for long periods of time with normal breaks.
